Routine Annual Physical (500 points) and/or Biometric Screening (250 points)

doctor and male patient

BP encourages all employees/retirees and spouses/domestic partners to complete a routine, annual physical with their preferred physician. Building a relationship with your primary care physician and understanding your numbers is the best way to become a healthier you!

We recommend that you complete a biometric screening before having your annual physical so that you can go over your screening results with your physician. If you complete a biometric screening with a BP-approved vendor between March and December 2012, you will earn 250 points in the BP wellness program. More information on the biometric screening will be available in Q1 2012.

Note: You can earn points for either the annual physical OR the biometric screening. If you complete both, you will receive 500 points.

If you complete a routine physical between January 1 and December 31, 2012, you will earn 500 points toward your eligibility for the HealthPlus Option (annual routine physicals performed in-network will be covered at 100% with no copay or deductible). We recommend you complete your physical by October in order to ensure that all your points are logged before the end of the year.

Note for women: While your annual well-woman exam qualifies for the 500 points, we encourage you to also complete an annual physical exam with your primary care physician.

Note for Group Leaders: Participating in the executive physical program will allow you to qualify for the 500 points.

What your annual physical must include to earn 500 points:

  • It must be completed with a licensed physician
  • If you do not have a separate biometric screening, at minimum it should include the following:
    • Blood test to measure your total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, Triglycerides and glucose (to identify the onset of diabetes)
    • A check of your blood pressure
    • Height and weight measurements (updated BMI)
  • Also reference Steps to becoming a healthier you to learn about the routine screenings you should get based on your age and gender

What your physical may include:

Not all screenings are considered "routine" and may not be covered by the BP Medical Plan. Below is a list of the types of screenings and lab tests that could be associated with a routine physical:

Albumin, serum
Complete Blood Count (CBC)
Glutamyltransferase Gamma
Basic Metabolic Panel
Comprehensive Metabolic Panel
Hemoglobin
Bilirubin, total
Creatine Kinase
Hematocrit
Calcium Total
Creatinine, blood
Lead
Carbon Dioxide
Electrolyte Panel
Lipid Panel
Chloride, blood
General Health Panel
Lipoprotein, HDL
Cholesterol Screening
Glucose
Spun microhematocrit

Urinalysis

Annual routine physicals performed in-network will be covered at 100% with no copay or deductible. However, your doctor may order additional lab tests or procedures that are not considered routine. If they are not considered medically necessary, you will be responsible for the full cost so it is important to always check with your insurance provider before agreeing to any additional testing.

When you will receive your 500 points:

Aetna and/or BCBS will automatically notify StayWell when they receive a claim for a routine, annual physical. You do not have to do anything. Your 500 points will show up in your online My Points Account once your doctor submits the claim and StayWell is notified by the carrier. No results from any physical will be shared with StayWell or BP.

From the time Aetna/BCBS receives the claim from your provider, it will take up to eight weeks before your name is passed to StayWell and points are awarded. If you have completed a physical and have not yet received points, please contact Aetna/BCBS customer service to confirm that your provider has submitted your claim.

Self-Reporting Option: You can use the Annual Physical Self Report Option within your My Points Account to immediately receive points credit. BP may audit self-reported responses.
