BP Wellness Program

BP has partnered with a third party wellness organization, StayWell, to offer a variety of wellness programs to support the health needs and interests of plan participants. These wellness programs are only available to covered BP employees and their covered spouse/domestic partner.

Participation in these programs also determines your eligibility to enroll in the HealthPlus or Health+Savings Options. You (and your covered spouse/domestic partner if electing You + spouse/domestic partner or You + family coverage) must each earn a minimum of 1,000 points annually by participating in these programs.

To learn more about the available activities in the BP Wellness Program and their associated points, visit the Wellness section of LifeBenefits. Also, as with all other plan benefits, you are not eligible to participate in the Wellness Program unless you are a participant in this plan.

Do well

Whether it's exercising regularly, utilizing preventive care or educating yourself on wellness, be sure to take advantage of these programs and activities designed to help you do your well-being right throughout the year. Here is a snapshot of your 2017 wellness program and points.

Ready. Set. Do! Start the year off right.

Well-being assessment — Health questionnaire and health advisor call (250 points)

The Health Questionnaire is available on the StayWell portal. After you complete the Health Questionnaire, call a health advisor at 1-888-343-9862. Your health advisor will:

  • Summarize your Health Questionnaire results.
  • Answer any questions you may have.
  • Offer referrals.
  • Help you register for StayWell programs.
  • Transfer you to a health coach, or schedule and confirm your next appointment.

Do the big walk.

BP Million Step Challenge (250-1,000 points)

Walk your way to better health by participating in the BP Million Step Challenge (MSC). For 2017, with every million steps you take during the year, you'll earn 250 wellness points, up to a maximum of four million steps and 1,000 points. Track four million steps and earn a special prize. You will need a Fitbit activity tracker to track your steps, which you can purchase through StayWell.

How it works
If you already have a Fitbit device, you are encouraged to use your existing device to track your steps. If you need to order a new one, benefits-enrolled active employees and their spouses/domestic partners, and benefits-enrolled COBRA participants and their spouses/domestic partners, will be eligible for a credit toward the purchase of a Fitbit step tracking device via the StayWell portal. The credit* may be used once during the two calendar years 2017 and 2018.

Certain devices (e.g. Blaze, Surge and Charge2) obtained by redeeming your credit may be considered income by the IRS. Applicable taxes will be deducted from your pay.

Retirees and LTD participants enrolled in a BP retiree medical plan and retail employees are not eligible for the Fitbit subsidy.

To get started, go to the StayWell portal to connect your existing Fitbit or obtain a new one using your Fitbit credit. Then connect your device via the MSC device connection block on the StayWell portal homepage and start turning your steps into points.**

You must complete your steps and connect your Fitbit by December 31, 2017 to earn your points. If you participated in the MSC for 2016, you must re-connect in 2017.

The Million Step Challenge runs from January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017. You may enroll any time between January 5, 2017 and December 31, 2017; however, only steps tracked on your Fitbit in the six months prior to connecting your device to the Million Step Challenge will be counted toward your total step count, back to January 1, 2017.

Once you enroll, you'll have access to tools to help you track your progress along the way, including the StayWell portal, StayWell mobile option, connect with friends and more.

Note: For safety reasons, some work locations may not allow the use of the Fitbit, which falls under BP’s policy on mobile devices. But, most employees will find it's easy to make up the steps on the weekends or whenever you're not at work.

* Promo codes for the Fitbit credit will be emailed to eligible participants.

** Only Fitbit device-tracked steps will count toward the BP Million Step Challenge. Self-reported or manually tracked steps will not be applied, nor will steps tracked on other products (Jawbone, Vivofit, etc.). A maximum of 35,000 steps are allowed per day.

BP Million Step Challenge bonus activities (50-250 points)

When you enroll in the Million Step Challenge, you'll have the opportunity to earn up to 250 additional points by participating in bonus activities. These typically consist of one- to seven-day challenges that encourage you to step up your activity by setting stretch goals for step counts (within the Million Step Challenge program). Each bonus activity is worth 50 points.

Details on 2017 bonus activities can be found on the StayWell portal.

Do the test. Track the rest.

Health Savings Account (HSA) incentive ($1,000-$2,000 BP HSA contribution)

Employees and their covered spouses/domestic partners enrolled in the Health+Savings Option in the BP Medical Plan are each eligible to receive a $1,000 contribution from BP in their HSA.

How to earn $1,000 in your HSA:
  1. Starting April 1, 2017, log on to the StayWell portal and download and print your personalized physician certification form.
  2. Schedule an appointment with your physician between January 1 and December 15, and complete a metabolic syndrome screening and your physician certification form.
  3. Submit your completed form to StayWell by December 15, 2017.
The details:
  • The physician certification form is available beginning April 1, 2017; however, you can complete your metabolic syndrome screening beginning January 1, 2017 through December 15, 2017.
  • The BP Medical Plan covers 100% of the cost for an in-network metabolic syndrome screening with your physician.*
  • Metabolic syndrome is a combination of risk factors that, when they occur together, increase your risk for developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The screening measures your blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting blood glucose and the size of your waist.
  • You are required to complete the entire physician certification form process and submit your results to StayWell.
  • You are required to submit all five metabolic screening measures and, if at least three of the five values are within the target range, you will receive $1,000 into your HSA account.
  • If you do not meet at least three of five values being in the target range, you may still receive the HSA incentive if your physician certifies on the physician certification form that an action plan for improvement is in place or that you are otherwise exempt due to a medical condition or pregnancy.
  • Spouses/domestic partners must also submit all five metabolic screening measures on a physician certification form to StayWell. If at least three of the five measures are within the target range, they will be eligible for the $1,000 HSA contribution.
Note: Retirees and their spouses/domestic partners and retail employees are not eligible for this incentive.

* The in-network requirement does not apply if you are enrolled in an Out-of-Area (OOA) medical option.

Annual physical/well woman (500 points)

Schedule an appointment with your physician for an annual physical exam. An annual physical must be completed by your primary physician and, at a minimum, should include a full annual biometric screening.

Note for women: While your annual well-woman exam qualifies for the 500 points, we highly encourage you to also complete an annual physical exam with your primary physician.

The BP Medical Plan covers one in-network annual physical and well-woman exam per calendar year at 100%.* If you use an out-of-network provider, you will generally pay a portion of the costs.

If you are enrolled in the HealthPlus, Health+Savings or Standard medical option, Aetna and/or BCBS-IL will automatically notify StayWell when a claim is processed for a routine annual physical/annual well-woman exam. This process can take up to eight weeks from your office visit before StayWell is notified and your points are awarded.

Alternative self-report option

In order to help expedite this process, you may also self-report your annual physical/well-woman exam by accessing the StayWell Portal, and clicking on the Annual Physical Self-Report option in My Points.

Simply certify that you have already completed your annual physical/well-woman exam during the 2017 calendar year and your 500 points will be immediately loaded to your My Points.

* The in-network requirement does not apply if you are enrolled in an Out-of-Area (OOA) medical option.

Biometric screening (125 points)

Complete one biometric screening onsite or offsite at a Quest Patient Service Center and earn 125 points. Points are awarded within 30 days of your screening.

If your location is hosting an onsite screening event, you will receive additional communications with registration details.

Note: Labs performed as part of your annual physical or metabolic syndrome screening do not qualify for the biometric screening 125 points. You can earn points by attending another biometric screening outside of your annual physical.

The coach will call you at a place and time convenient for you and will help you set goals, deal effectively with barriers, evaluate helpful resources and keep you on track for success!

Notice regarding wellness program

BP's Wellness Program is a voluntary wellness program available to all participants in the BP Medical Plan. The program is administered according to federal rules governing wellness programs that seek to improve employee health or prevent disease, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, as applicable, among others. If you choose to participate in the wellness program, you will have the opportunity to complete the Health Questionnaire. The HQ is a voluntary health risk assessment that asks a series of questions about your health-related activities and behaviors and whether you have or had certain medical conditions (e.g., cancer, diabetes, or heart disease). If you participate in the Health+Savings Option, you will also have the opportunity to complete the physician certification form where you will complete a metabolic screening and measure your blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting blood glucose and the size of your waist.

Both of these opportunities are voluntary to you, as is participation in the wellness program overall. However, participants who choose to participate in the wellness program earn points towards their eligibility for the HealthPlus and Health+Savings Options. As well, if you are in the Health+Savings Option, although you are not required to complete the physician certification form, only employees who do so will receive the BP contribution to their Health Savings Account.

Additional points-earning opportunities are available throughout the BP Wellness Program, some of which are health-related. Please refer to the wellness guide for a complete description of each opportunity.  If you are unable due to a medical condition to participate in any of the health-related activities or achieve any of the health outcomes required to earn an incentive, a reasonable accommodation or an alternative standard is available. You may request a reasonable accommodation or an alternative standard by contacting the BP HR & Benefits Center at 1-800-890-4100.

The information from the Health Questionnaire and from your physician certification form will be used to provide you with information to help you understand your current health and potential risks, and may also be used in partnership with a StayWell health advisor to design wellness activities that suit you specifically.  You also are encouraged to share your results or concerns with your own doctor.

Protections from disclosure of medical information

As further described in the plan's summary plan description, the BP Medical Plan is required by law to maintain the privacy and security of your personally identifiable health information. Although the wellness program coordinator and BP's Benefits team may use aggregate information it collects to design a program based on identified health risks, the BP Medical Plan will never disclose any of your personal information either publicly or to the employer, except as necessary to respond to a request from you for a reasonable accommodation needed to participate in the wellness program, or as expressly permitted by law. Medical information that personally identifies you that is provided in connection with the wellness program will not be provided to your supervisors or managers and may never be used to make decisions regarding your employment.

Your health information will not be sold, exchanged, transferred, or otherwise disclosed except to the extent permitted by law to carry out specific activities related to the wellness program, and you will not be asked or required to waive the confidentiality of your health information as a condition of participating in the wellness program or receiving an incentive. Anyone who receives your information for purposes of providing you services as part of the wellness program will abide by the same confidentiality requirements. The only individual(s) who will receive your personally identifiable health information from the BP Wellness Program are AonHewitt, StayWell, approved members of the BP Benefits department and Aetna, and all done in order to provide you with services under the wellness program.

In addition, all personally identifiable medical information obtained by BP Benefits through the wellness program will be maintained wholly separate from your personnel records, information stored electronically will be encrypted, and no information you provide as part of the wellness program will be used in making any employment decision. Appropriate precautions will be taken to avoid any data breach, and in the event a data breach occurs involving information you provide in connection with the wellness program, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.

You may not be discriminated against in employment because of the medical information you provide as part of participating in the wellness program, nor may you be subjected to retaliation if you choose not to participate.
