Long-term disability (LTD) pays you a percentage of your eligible pay if you are injured or ill and are unable to work at a level to maintain earning at least 80% of your pre-disability pay. To qualify for LTD benefits, you must satisfy each of the following:
- Be disabled because of illness or injury.
- Complete a six-month waiting period when you first become disabled. During this six-month waiting period, you may return to work. If you earn less than 80% of your eligible pay during this time, you will still be able to receive LTD benefits at the end of the six-month waiting period.
- Be under the appropriate care of a doctor.
- Provide CIGNA, the claims administrator, with proof of your disability.
- Meet all the other terms and conditions of the LTD Plan.
