Incremental dependent care reimbursement

From time to time, you may have to pay for child care that is directly related to business travel or business meetings outside your normal work schedule. When you do, BP may reimburse you for that expense.

1. Who's Eligible

Full-time, part-time, term contract, temporary employees and occasional employees are eligible for incremental dependent care reimbursement.

If you are eligible:

  • you must be single; or
  • if you are married or in a domestic partnership, your spouse/domestic partner must be unable to provide child care in your absence.

2. How the Program Works

If you are traveling on BP business or participating in a company business meeting outside your normal work schedule, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for incremental dependent care expenses. Dependent care expenses incurred as the result of an overtime assignment are not reimbursable under this program.

To qualify for reimbursement, the expense must be for caregiving:

  • to any child age 17 and under or to a physically or mentally impaired family member who depends on you for support; and
  • by someone other than a dependent you claim on your income tax return or a person who is a permanent member of your household.

In addition, the expense cannot be greater than that which you would normally incur for your dependent's care, nor can it be a child care expense that you pay for regularly.

Expenses must be approved by your supervisor or department manager, and must be reasonable in terms of the prevailing rate in your geographic area. Your Business Unit will determine the maximum reimbursement available for incremental dependent care expenses.

3. Filing a Claim

To receive reimbursement for incremental dependent care expenses, complete an Incremental Dependent Care Expense Reimbursement Form (see link below) and submit it to your supervisor/department manager for approval. Send a copy of the signed form to your local time entry person for input.
